As the 2019 spring featured top new cushion running shoes of Asics 2019, the 21th generation of GEL-NIMBUS has been released.
As the top running shoes series of Asics, the refresh rate is fast. It’s just passed about half year after last generation. We can see the variation of its appearance. After trying and easy testing, the feedback and cushion of forefoot is obvious. After several trainings, here I will give you an overall performance review of GEL-NIMBUS 21.
Appearance: 7.0 scores
To be honest, the appearance of Asics GEL-NIMBUS 21 is quite normal. If you don’t have a good looking feet shape, it looks like a black square from a distance.
But Asics GEL-NIMBUS 21 uses the new shoe tree construction. It provides enough space for forefoot. And it also improves the comfort level. In the meantime, it uses double layers of jacquard weave mesh material, and the important parts have been reinforced by 3D lines. And comparing with GEL-NIMBUS 20, the heelpiece part also has been adjusted. It simplifies the redundant lines and block surface, it has became to be succinct.
In additional, for the colorway, the color that I wear is black with yellow. And the other three colorway also too simple.
Comfort: 8.8 scores
The shoes fit well with the foot after fastening the shoelaces. It’s not too tight, and not too loose. And the new shoe tree offer sufficient moving space for the forefoot. I feel comfortable when running.
Cushion: 8.5 scores
GEL-NIMBUS 21 still use GEL cushion rubber, which is still placed in the position of the forefoot and rear foot parts where bear the high impact, so that it can reduce the impact and load to the body. But this time, the forefoot GEL cushion rubber of GEL-NIMBUS 21 has been changed to be internally installed. And it also reduces the content of cushion rubber.
After running 5KM and 10KM, the cushion performance of GEL-NIMBUS 21 is still excellent. The feedback of forefoot and rear foot is obvious. But it’s a little stiff on the outside part of the GEL cushion rubber.

The insole of GEL-NIMBUS 21 still uses its FLYTEFOAM PROPEL technology, which offer stronger resilience force. The FLYTEFOAM PROPEL matching with the nanofiber material reinforce the durability of insole.
In the beginning of running, you will feel that the insole is stiff, but after a while, you start to feel the feedback from the insole. It likes to save your power and then give it back to you.
Comparing with GEL-NIMBUS 20, GEL-NIMBUS 21 reduces a piece of outside stabilizing plate, instead of structure of outsole to completely touch the ground. It only keeps the stabilizing plate of midsole to increase the land area and increase the stabilization. It’s said that the outsole with AHAR and rubber from ASICS is three times more durable than conventional rubber. The new outsole grains have better traction.
Overall: 8.0 scores
It can be said that GEL-NIMBUS 21 has made some improvements. The shoe tree is new and it amend the heel part, also improving the supporting performance and appearance. The designer should have tried a lot to make GEL-NIMBUS series better. But the price is too high at present. For most of people, the most important thing is the comfort level. Hope that the next generation of GEL-NIMBUS will pay higher attention on it.
